Review # 1 was written on 2016-07-03 00:00:00 Geoff Banks Just reread through books 1-9 of this series, and am randomly rating all of them here. I really enjoyed these as a teen, before I read real literature. Now, as an adult, they're perfectly stale. No real character growth; Van's hyper-impulsiveness was boring after book 1 and hasn't lessened (with no real repercussions, either); and the whole "believe in yourself and you'll do the impossible" trope is so worn out that by now, it should feel ashamed of how many times it's been used in this series. What a letdown to my fond memories. Well, better to know the truth of it so I can stop recommending the series.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-05 00:00:00 Jeff Beerman Deeply confusing story! Otherwise fairly readable. Well likely not read rest of series, may watch anime!
