Review # 1 was written on 2016-09-22 00:00:00 Uyfgo Perez There's something oddly universal in this look at Northern children during the Civil War. Much like later kids, there was fascination and excitement with the war, military games, fiction in which plucky kids heroically fought alongside the adults, as well as the more sober experiences of losing a parent permanently or temporarily, raising money for the war effort and occasionally serving (military drummers were kids and many boys enlisted under-age). A narrow focus, obviously, but a good account within its range. |
