Review # 1 was written on 2008-06-05 00:00:00 William Stephens The theme of Healing Spiritually (which was not written by Mary Baker Eddy but it's an anthology of testimonies of healing by applying prayer) is to explore the different aspects of what can be considered a healing. The publishers reprinted testimonies up to 1995 that originally appeared in their religious publications, separating them in broader sections that zero in to particular conditions. For example, the section entitled “Healing and guidance in every stage of life” comprises testimonies related to hereditary conditions -like cystic fibrosis and autism-, pregnancy, children, jobs, and even interracial relations. Most interesting are the testimonies of children that were hospitalized, and prayed by themselves -some times all alone and without a Christian Science background-, getting healed of polio or other ailments. The fact that medical professionals were witnessing the healings makes these accounts most interesting. Several healings in the book are confirmed by allopathic medical doctors. Other healings include relationships (with others or self), a variety of illnesses, the effects of accidents and the effects of downturn economies. The volume can be read in many chunks as most testimonies are quite short. One can also pick a section or a chapter pertaining a particular situation. All in all, these testimonies can bring hope that when everything is lost, there is one more thing to try: prayer. Being published by the Christian Science Publishing Society, this book might feel inflammatory for mainstream Christians. It is, however, a fascinating glimpse into a mystery that conventional science is just starting to try to understand.
