Call me an elitist; if knowing good food does not come from a microwave is elitist, I am proud to call myself one. Example of what makes this a novelty humor book: "In my search for cooking ideas, I attended a microwave demonstration and there I found my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It seemed to have all the answers... " Maybe I need to try all these recipes before I can rightfully say anything, but honestly the few I have tried turned out to be inedible; otherwise, it was good, but was far outweighed by the number of utensils/other tools needed, the covering and uncovering, the time actually spent cooking depending on the dish, the unevenness at times, etcetera. Some recipes require several separate bowls, mixing here, then waiting before turning over, then separating then combining. So much labor, when I thought the point was for the microwave to make it easier. Microwaves are simply not meant to make steaks, cakes, roasts, French Toast, casseroles, French Onion Soup. And I did not make those up. There are recipes for those. I suppose I should be forgiving since this is from the year 1985, but it is not like that much has changed in cooking. In fact, what advanced technology has done is make it even easier to cook without a microwave. Thus validating my categorization for this as a novelty humor book. I love this book, as long as we are not calling it a cookbook. |
