Review # 1 was written on 2009-07-16 00:00:00 Kevin Ross I'm disappointed the other reviewers have not commented on this book---it was certainly distinctive. I have to applaud the author for writing something so quirky and creative; I believe it would be considered Southern Gothic if you have to attach a genre to this novel. The scenes were so vividly written that it almost read like a film--and, perhaps that is what the writer hoped for, a movie deal. And, I think I would enjoy a film more than the book. The characters made me smile, but the faintly disturbing nature of the plot led me to not enjoy the book as much as others might. Its tone is faintly reminiscent of Cold Comfort Farm in that it strives for a very unique humor---if only it was as successful in its objective as Cold Comfort Farm. |
