Are UFOs real? Can the future be predicted? Can humans interact with the spirit world? These are some of the questions addressed in the book, each as a chapter with a close number of affirming and opposing viewpoints underneath. Theyre in the form of articles, journals and book excerpts, all written by experts of the field in question (i.e scientists, astrologists, psychologists, parapsychologists, magicians, psychiatrists). ONeill doesnt seek to find a solution, as the quote mentioned earlier suggests, but simply to present diverse claims and viewpoints and let the reader decide for herself who is right and who is wrong. If there is any problem he promises to solve, it is the often hostile spirit of debate, urging the reader to consider ideas he isnt comfortable with with an open mind (Those who do not know their opponents arguments do not completely understand their own). And it accomplishes its purpose. With ONeills sharp and careful editing, the reader gains more knowledge about an issue by looking at it from various perspectives. It seriously challenges the readers held views. A reader with a strong belief in astrology could change her mind overnight on Nostradamuss accurate predictions after reading the Interpretations of Nostradamuss Predictions Are Biased excerpt by magician James Randi. Or another could be convinced of the paranormal after going through Explanations for the Paranormal Are Adequate excerpt by prolific writer D. Scott Rogo. At some points it gets dull as the writers of specific topics get into too many details, or not enough, therefore making the reader lost. In the end, I could not come to a strong conclusion of who was right and wrong which can be frustrating. This is the problem with a lot of books that promise to shed light on previously underlooked perspectives without the writer/editor coming to a conclusion of his own. Also, the title is slightly misleading as astrology isnt considered by astrologists to be paranormal but science, therefore making the book seem a tad biased. However, I recommend it to those who are curious about what different people think of paranormal phenomena. This might help them consider something they may never have noticed before.

The book "Paranormal Phenomena, Opposing Viewpoints" is a non-fiction book telling the different viewpoints of modern scientists and reasearchers. This book is very meaningful by the author because the viewpoints by each individual shows their own perspective of the paranormal, and ab-scientific world. The reason I believe the author wrote this book was to show the importance of science in the world and the advancements we've taken as the human race to show that we are slowly becoming a dominant race among imagination, yet we may be a subdominant race compared to what may live in space. The book goes through examples of how alien life has been encountered with abductions of humans, and how the human may have just had a very vivid dream and thought it was real. The book goes through a huge amount of opinions from different scientists and researchers, all telling their story and their opinion on how modern society has reached a stage where people are believing everything they see and how it is affecting us as a race. The book uses really good points and has evidence to back it up, but its long and rather difficult to comprehend the first time reading it. But I still recommend it!
