There are tutorials on the basics (yarns and tools) as well as more advanced topics including specialty stitching, working with leather/wire/beads, and felting. There are shawls and scarf patterns; some will keep you warm and some will make you look Mahvelous Darling! My first project out of this book will be a collar made with V and shell stitches. Changing the types of yarn used will make many iterations of this pattern all look unique. There’s even a pattern useful for working with a smart phone during cold weather: the top of the crocheted mittens pull down to reveal gloves with open finger tops. There are a variety of cute accessories. Take your pick among headbands, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and purses.

It is a very well laid out book with lots of photos, diagrams and explanations, broken down into easy-to-use sections. It is the sort of book you can dip in to when you need some information but also can be 'read' from cover to cover. Includes some interesting thoughts on the ethics of fabric and fashion at the end to keep you thinking about where you source materials and the impact items can have on the world around us. Definitely one for the reference shelf if you have any interest in design and making clothes.
