Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-05 00:00:00 Paul Bevans Gorgeous collage-style illustrations. Could also appeal to older readers for this reason. Set in mid-19th century. Pattern of nice short descriptions followed by child asking her mom where her dad is through the seasons as he captains a clipper ship buying exotic items in foreign lands. Mother and daughter miss him but they stay involved in activities and so do not become distraught. Good for showing difference between units of time.

Review # 2 was written on 2009-08-02 00:00:00 Scott Helm Poetic text, absolutely beautiful illustrations that are very intricate. The story brought tears to my eyes. There seems to be a magical quality to the mother's descriptions of the father's location...
