Review # 1 was written on 2019-05-23 00:00:00 Gary Crawford The Ikenberry of space. Moltz tells the tale of the back-and-forth between the US and USSR in terms of cooperation and competition. He clearly favors the cooperative approach and hopes for a future that includes synergistic cooperation for the betterment of mankind. Interestingly, it is also clear that in nearly every case where one or the other country took a cooperative approach, it was from a position of comparative disadvantage vis-a-vis their adversary. I believe Moltz acknowledges this aspect, though, and therefore I see his book as more Ikenberry then Wendt. Moltz may hope for a cooperative future of rainbows and unicorns, but he sees the reality of competition and points toward a pragmatic hope for a mutually beneficial (and peaceful) tomorrow that reflects more cooperation than competition. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-05-25 00:00:00 Gary Webster Copyright 1959. It's interesting to read books like this from the dawn of the space age. This is outdated now, but at the time must have been important as a semi-technical overview of spaceflight. |
