Review # 1 was written on 2010-03-24 00:00:00 Theresa Kruse The Kiss by Thodore de Banville Is this a fairy tale, a satire or just a simple story? I am not sure. And looking for a clue on the internet, oddly enough you find Nada, Niente. In the age where you find a million pages on macaws for instance, it is strange to be unable to place a play. I am sure that if I put in the Romanian name, I will be directed to a site which has some of the old plays available. And then there is the casting, but that would be about all that I would get. On goodreads, we find the title but there is no review and no rating. If it would be a hidden gem, then I would cry - Evrika! But it is a rather intriguing tale. At the start, there is this woman voice- I listened to an adapted version for National Radio. She says that she had been cursed. Then there comes the hero, who sees an old lady: - Let me help you - All right - If there is anything else I can do for you? - There is actually, I have a wish - Let me know and whatever it is I will grant it to you - Do you promise? - Even if it is a gold piece that I do not have, anything...just ask - Ok then, I want a kiss And the young man is taken aback by the outlandish request coming from such an old woman that he never would have expected it - Shall I give my first kiss to such an old thing? - All right then, I will kiss you And then a miracle happens. And it all sounds familiar, isnt it? There is the story of the frog who becomes a prince if I am not mistaken. This may be an invitation to wonder about what we value most. - Do we look at the surface, the exterior? - Or do we decide only once we saw beneath the surface? I propose another alternative. In my view, what is beneath shows up on the face of things or more likely people. If a person ids kind and nice, you can see it on the persons image. There are the obvious clues- a frowning, disgusted figure or an arrogant individual will have that all over the face. A smiling, bonhomous look will reveal a positive character and a pleasant person. Of course, mistakes are made. There is more on this in Blink by the sensational Malcolm Gladwell. We tend to thin slice and reach the same conclusion about a person after 60 seconds as after 6 months. We are wrong I repeat it sometimes, but we have evolved with an ability and need to come to a conclusion quicklyin the Blink of an Eye, because we have the Power of Thinking Without Thinking, in the words of the same great Malcolm Gladwell. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-02-22 00:00:00 Jaime ortiz Really quite an interesting read/ informative for those living in the Northern Kentucky area. I park at the bottom of the hill where the Supper Club was, and its haunting really to think about how many people lost their lives there. My father told me a story about how he had to drop his friend's mom off that night because she was a nurse and they needed anyone who could help. He said it was one of the craziest scenes he as ever witnessed in his life. |
