An excellent book of WWII veterans recounting their experiences during the war. I'm a little jaded of course, since this book is written about veterans from my hometown of Stamford, CT. Reading about both the horrors they witnessed, the courage, the hardships and even the boredom they faced on a daily basis was humbling to me, especially since I knew several of these men. Two were part of the Springdale Fire Company with my father. One was head of the Art Department and one head of the History Department at my high school the four years I attended. I still recall these unassuming men going about life just as you or I would, never suspecting what they saw and experienced. There were other family names that I recognized from schoolmates - Pia, Volpe, Hyland, Bocizzi. It's not often you get to read a book that actually has a personal connection of sorts. Very enjoyable.

Really quite an interesting read/ informative for those living in the Northern Kentucky area. I park at the bottom of the hill where the Supper Club was, and its haunting really to think about how many people lost their lives there. My father told me a story about how he had to drop his friend's mom off that night because she was a nurse and they needed anyone who could help. He said it was one of the craziest scenes he as ever witnessed in his life.
