The 1950's By Richard Tames Book Review By James In this book it talks all about the 1950's and what was going on during this time period. in the first chapter it talks all about the Communist country of Russia It gives specific information such as when Richard Nixon visited Moscow. In the second chapter it talks about how in Europe the scars of war where healing and how each country are trying to help with this. The Uninvited states where also trying to help recreate the bond that we once had with other countries. In the forth chapter it talks about how leaders rose out of the ashes of world war two and fell as a result of it. Such as The leader of Cuba, Castro was threatening another great war nuclear war witch in chapter seven the atomic age. This chapter talks about precautions that we took against atomic war such as creating the fallout shelter and the under ground bunkers that we still use today but we use them much different now then we did back then. some of them where turned into military bunkers and some where just cast aside. "The European free trade association was set up in 1959 to rival the common market." (Richard Tames 10) In my opinion the author did a very good job capturing one of my favorite time periods of all. he defiantly did his research because in every book, movie and documentary's that I have ever seen there is more information in this one book that has been condensed into a shorter more interesting version. This book is also a great source for people who want to learn more about the 1950's era. This book also has my favorite musician the world Frank Sinatra. "Frank Sinatra performed at a 1952 concert in New York." (Tames 29) I give this book a 4.5 star rating because the book had information that I would have never found in any other place. This book taught me a lot and the little factoids that give most of the information. I am going to try to find the rest of this series because I love to learn about history.
