an annotated guide to comics through 1995 I really wish the author would put out an updated version of this - the amount of good graphic novels has soared since 1995. I still ended up putting seven graphic novels on my TBR after reading this so it's a win (The Upturned Stone, Barefoot Gen, Arkham Asylum, Black Orchid, Scarlet in Gaslight, Stinz: Horsebrush and Other Tales, and Dread).

Citation by: Robbie Biddle Type of Reference: Bibliographic Call Number: Ref 973 Content/Scope: This bibliographic reference is an annotated guide that describes and evaluates more than four hundred works of English. It is appropriate for 8th to 12th graders. Accuracy/Authority/Bias: The book contains a wide variety of materials that encompasses graphic novels that will appeal to many different groups. Arrangement/Presentation: The book consists of two hundred sixty eight pages containing biographies, essays, and illustrations. It breaks down the features of each work in order for the reader to make an informed decision about the graphic novel they wanted to choose. Relation to other works: This work contains an extensive list of graphic novels. It could however use an update. Accessibility/Diversity: This book would be a great addition to any library because it would help with the selection of graphic novels for the students. This would address a need that many libraries do not hit which is the fan base of graphic novels. Cost: $29.60 Professional Review: Chance, R. (1996). Professional reading.
