Review # 1 was written on 2019-12-30 00:00:00 Faye E. Hoffman This is a good anthology, but it might provide a richer reading experience with selections from fewer authors but more or longer selections from each one. Most of the writers have only 2-3 pages of material -- a few poems, a short story or essay, or an excerpt from a novel -- so it's hard for readers new to all or most of the writers to get a good feel for their style, tone, or subject matter. Still, it's worth reading through this collection to get an idea of the kinds of things Cuban-American authors write about and the many different genres and techniques they employ. Although most of the works here are translated into English by the editors, some of them are already written in English by the authors, especially more recent works. |
