Review # 1 was written on 2012-03-27 00:00:00 Erica Futral This book is about the life of Cesar Chavez and his efforts to help farmers from around the country. Having come from working on the farm himself, he knows what it is like to get down and dirty, but he also wanted to make sure farmers and workers were being treated fairly and with respect. If farmers failed to do that, Chavez would lead protests or strikes to help the workers get what they needed. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-08-24 00:00:00 Jeremy Loud This is a biography that outlines the life and achievements of Cesar Chavez from his youth to death. Cesar lived in Arizona but he and his family moved to California during the Great Depression to find work. The Chavez family worked on farms in California under bad conditions. Cesar formed the first farming labor union. The book was realistic and factual. An added benefit for children was that the book adds explanations certain concepts that children may not be familiar with such as labor unions and slavery. The followed the typical biography chronological outline and contained plenty of interesting facts to hold a child's attention. I would recommend this book for children, especially in rural areas and farming communities. It is a great story of rising up and achieving greatness while overcoming adversity. |
