Review # 1 was written on 2018-03-25 00:00:00 Andrew Smith Jeannette Rankin was the first female elected to Congress, her first vote ever was to vote against entering WW1, and she is the only person to have voted against entering both WW1 and WW2. And yet, when I searched the catalog of my 80 library system, I found zero adult biographies of her and only a handful of old juvenile bios. (This one was rereleased a few years ago, but is 20 years old.) That is utterly ridiculous. She did amazing things her entire life, right down to marching for peace during the Vietnam War, and is barely even a footnote for it. "Wouldn't it be too bad if we left this world and hadn't done all we could for peace?" She has a lot to say about the times we live in, and it's a shame so few are giving her space. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-03-05 00:00:00 Alfred Villoch I picked this up for my reading challenge task to read a biography. Biographies really aren't my thing, so I picked a short one from the teen section of my library. It was good to learn a bit about such a brave, pioneering woman. |
