I read this book many years ago and I keep a copy of it where I can find it. It's a unique book that follows 120 themes through the bible, examining the relationships between recurring patterns. For example: the span of 40 days and nights occurs during the flood of Noah; when Moses climbed Mt. Sinai and received the Law (and spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness before entering the promised land); and Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in preparation for his ministry. What is the significance and meaning of the number 40 in these passages? Offiler provides intriguing answers on this and many more curious features of the Bible. This is not a scholarly book, Offiler was a preacher and his writing is punctuated with Pentecostal zeal throughout. Nonetheless, it is a fascinating compilation of Bible themes revealing a remarkable symmetry and design that students of the Bible will find refreshing and affirming. Rather than offering dry dogma, Offiler points out feature after feature of the Bible itself that comprise a logical framework for interpretation of its many mysteries.

this was a really great fresh look at the work of the Holy Spirit. dave and i were just talking about this! it's not just about a one time experience or even a two time deal. the spirit of God can come upon you many times with many different evidences of this. speaking in tongues is not refuted (for it is a very real experience), but the biblical evidence of being filled with the spirit of God (which happens at the time of salvation) is in the fruit of the spirit. very good stuff. i do not like how he seems to deal harshly a group for misconceiving. i think he just has to realize that it is not of malice - just of misunderstanding.
