Review # 1 was written on 2019-03-11 00:00:00 Jeremy Helbing Seems like a condensed form of Shelby Foote's three volume Narrative. Written in 1992, it is very dated. Not much on politics. The Gettysburg Address, for example, gets only a couple of sentences. No discussion of events leading up to the war. Very critical of President Abraham Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant. Very favorable to the rebels. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-01-17 00:00:00 Aaron Fleck For those with a deep interest in the US civil war there is a rich range of specific books or multi-volume histories. For those seeking an introduction, this book provides in a single volume an insight into the politics, the battles and the people involved in this conflict. |
