"I don't want to be loved unconditionally! I want to be loved for reasons. All my life, growing up, I heard that God loved me unconditionally. I was taught that God loves us in spite of our sinful and unworthy selves, and God loves everyone the same. Maybe that was good news to some people, but I wanted something else from God. I wanted to be loved wildly, passionately, helplessly. I wanted God to delight in me, not to love in spite of my being messy and forgetful and mouthy, but because in my own way, I was fabulous." Lovely and super short personal essays from Meg Barnhouse in which she talks to evangelists by the side of the road, educates her sons on the word "floozy", introduces a bunch of boys to Earl Grey tea, and reflects on the geologic foundations literally underneath her house and spiritual foundations in her life.

Sort of like Erma Bombeck essays (except shorter and more bittersweet), if Erma Bombeck were a UU minister.
