Review # 1 was written on 2015-07-09 00:00:00 David Scott It's hard to rate a book really high when it's in Spanish because it's so much harder for me to enjoy reading in my second language, but these stories were quite good! Three stars = I liked it, ok!? I checked it out in my search for young adult Spanish materials, but this one has maybe only one or two stories that could work for teens: Al otro lado del horizonte which is about a boy who adopts a race dog, and maybe La frialdad que todos llevamos about the vicious cycle of violence or the title story Salsipuedes, a strange and delusional narrative about a girl who lives near a dump with her family. Only the first of these three has any funny parts. Although the other stories are not appropriate for teens, they are moving and bring life to a population that is often invisible - people living between Mexico and the US in border towns on both sides. A good number of the stories are not about double lives, but simply everyday lives of people living in Mexico or the US and finding love and work and pursuing happiness or success.

Review # 2 was written on 2016-03-11 00:00:00 Stephen Kobak I read this for the sake of studying Spanish. It's not as difficult as some "high" literature books are. It does have some words that I didn't find in the dictionary. Some of the stories are quite raw, even crude, in nature, but that is the nature of his general topic; Tijuana. He doesn't shirk from describing the sad, dirty, even vulgar aspects of life, but this gives the book a great deal of honesty and reality.
