I love this book, which I received as a birthday present from my husband. It's a neat anthropological tale interwoven with some excellent bread recipes.

The stories from the various 'little old ladies' are, in many ways more interesting than the recipes themselves. It's a little frustrating for non-American readers that there are no conversions from US units (eg sticks of butter etc) but that can be done online and scribbled in the book. There are an interesting number of 'biscuit' breads. But very few recipes that need 'bread ' flour (ie with high gluten). So if you want a classic bread book - this is not it. All in all worth a read but not an essential bread book.
