The owner of Heirloom Books loves trivia quizzes, especially ones about literature such as the LitWit game. She pulled this one out of the 'Chicago' section of the store and, although it covers non-literary topics pertinent to Illinois as well, we, sometimes helped by friends, went through all of it, even the dread section on sports and entertainment. Having done a whole lot of such trivia quizzes now I cannot rate this one very highly: too many of the questions are absolutely trivial and obscure as well, so obscure that I doubt that even a professional Illinois historian would know the answers. Additionally, the answers are often terse, not providing much background as regards the topic in question. One of the pleasures of trivia games is that one can learn more than just sheer facts divorced from context. I was, however, happy to find one question, not too obscure, about the Kupjack miniaturists, the last of whom, Hank, my oldest friend, died just a few weeks ago.

A breezy little read. Some of the quotes are pretty clever. A couple of my favorites: "I've learned there's no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs." "I've learned that meeting interesting people depends less on where you go and more on who you are."
