Review # 1 was written on 2020-08-19 00:00:00 Philip Dolaway This has been sitting on my shelf for some odd years, and I finally read it. 1.5 stars for me. The authors really wanted to hit their decided 2002 ideas, and it shows. The tips are very repetitive, particularly about giving flowers (just-so many flowers), writing love notes/letters, kiss more often, and be lazy together. Many tips honestly do not fall under what I'd define as "romantic." Instead, many tips are simply "bonding" tips, which is perfectly fine, but not romantic. Buying a matching outfit for your wife and daughter is not romantic, but okay. The tips and overall tone of the book came across as kinda sexist. A clear indication of this is the number of times guys were boiled down to "we like sports!" and apparently women just love to shop and go on shopping sprees. While there were some financially sensible tips, there were many insistences I thought to myself, "Who can even afford this?" (answer: upper middle class and rich people) I could keep going, but I'll close with this: I never want to see, read, or hear the word "mate" ever again in my life. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-11-02 00:00:00 Alex Koehler Waste. of. time. I didn't find any enlightening ideas in this book, and I only read it so I could get it off my book shelf. It's sad that people can't come up with most of these ideas themselves...there really aren't any surprising ideas. |
