Having served on board a ship named after this man while serving in the U.S. Navy, I knew little about him. I knew that he served in the American Revolution, sunk the HMS Gaspee, and when told by a British Naval Officer that he would hang for the offense, replied, "You have to catch a man before you hang him." When I saw this biography I had to read it. I didn't know the extent of his actions in the Revolution, that he was briefly a Prisoner of War, that he was one of the early pioneers of what would become the state of Ohio, and was the first to navigate the hazardous Falls of the Ohio to help establish navigation on the Ohio River to the Mississippi that helped establish trade from Pittsburgh to New Orleans. A very interesting character.

The selection of women for the contents was good but the book lacked depth and superficial. Nice summary about the women but the ones I knew about were much more complex than the author could cover in this small book.
