This is an impressive debut, with poems huge enough to walk around and get lost in, yet specific enough to point to telling details and make us see into life's mysteries and open questions. Wide-ranging and carefully crafted, this invites multiple readings. I particularly enjoyed "The Scout Looks for Bee Purple", "Nothing by Mouth", and "A Few Falls in Tuscaloosa", but the whole book is good, and Donovan has great endings and an impressive economy, so that each poem feels exactly the right length, with nothing unnecessary but plenty of image, detail, and space. A keeper.

A collection of essays by Segal relating to the topic of mythology. I haven't read them all, but have enjoyed what I got to. I really enjoyed his Myth: A Very Short Introduction, and enjoyed getting to see some of his more "advanced" scholarly work.
