Review # 1 was written on 2015-05-11 00:00:00 Jeffrey Saunders Defiance Mountain (1956) I scooped up a bunch of early Frank Bonham westerns and have been going through them chronologically. This is the least of the ones I’ve read so far; it’s certainly the most formulaic, with little original to recommend it, unlike others I’ve read. This is the standard range war saga with a stalwart ex-lawman hero, the evil ranch baron, his power hungry daughter, the good girl, the ambitious ranch foreman, etc. He wrote earlier ones with more to recommend them—usually an odd plot angle or historical connection. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-07-16 00:00:00 Charles Hernandez Set in the highlands of Arizona, a former Sheriff faces a foe that wants his land and the trees on it. He thinks he is in love with this foes daughter. There is one other real bad character that plays both sides. Good character development, but lacks the ability to give you a picture of the place. The plot moves and you are finished before you know it. |
