Most comics are more straightforward than I was expecting / hoping, given the cover cartoon, and thus felt kind of bland to me. I was geared up for interpretations which is perhaps more on me than Morice. He does employ a diversity of visual styles, but I didn’t find the illos aesthetically pleasing or interesting enough to muse upon in the main. That being said, there are some worthwhile moments scattered throughout and there *are* a handful of really fun comics in this volume. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-05-04 00:00:00 Nathan Thompson A mixed bag. Morice drawn is diverse styles, but I'm not convinced that he draws well. The real question, however, is does he illuminate this poetry with his illustrations. He used a number of styles in his attempts to do this as well. I find the results uneven. Some few are quite wonderful. Some few are banal. Most are somewhere in between. |
