Dwyer, J. (Ed.). (1996). Earth works: An annotated bibliography of recommended fiction and nonfiction about nature and the environment for adults and young adults. New York, NY: Neal-Schuman Publishers. Reviewed By: Allison Lupton Reference Type: Bibliography Reading Level: All ages Call Number: 016.3637 Cost: $86.45 Description: One-third of this book is devoted to fiction while the remaining two-thirds is devoted to nonfiction. Relevance/Relationship: Although the book was published in 1996, the concept of “going green” and finding ways to conserve is not outdated. If anything, the subject has only become more popular due to the increased awareness. Purpose: The purpose of this resource would be to offer students and teachers one place where they could find information on a subject that is now prevalent to all of us. It would also appeal to many different subjects. Validity: Reviewed highly by both Booklist Online and Library Journal, this source is reliable. Format: Print, one volume Arrangement/Presentation: The entries in the book are arranged under 59 topics by author. At times, grade level is noted or notations such as “OT” for older teens. Diversity: This book would be appropriate for all readers not only because there are many various reading levels annotated, but also because the subject matter is applicable and relevant for all students. Review Citation: Booklist Online. (1996, April 15). Very good, but see Linda Ernst's Lapsit Services for the Very Young II for a more comprehensive and updated resource. Lapsit Services for the Very Young II is great--check it out to use when you start a baby st program.
