Review # 1 was written on 2012-10-04 00:00:00 Victor ADERETH I enjoyed this book by a local author. I am generally drawn to stories of immigrants in this country and this story of first-generation Italians in Brooklyn did not disappoint. I especially enjoyed it because my own family is New York Italian. The author captured this experience faithfully and handled some delicate topics deftly. Worth the read. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-04-25 00:00:00 Teresa Edwards Wendy Guerra is the first Cuban author I've ever read so far, and I thoroughly enjoyed it - not only does she scatter Cuban artists (music, poetry) in her diary, but she also gives passage to wild, authentic thoughts as a child always on the move, with a broken family. It's captivating to see her transformation through adolescence, and how she tries to understand herself through her writing, but also Che Guevara's influences in Cuba. I felt the end was too rushed, and abrupt, maybe, but nevertheless, an enjoyable read. Made me want to discover more artists from Cuba! (P.S. I recommend Joaquin Sabina - Eclipse de mar song) |
