Review # 1 was written on 2012-12-26 00:00:00 E J Morey 3.5. This is a textbook one would use if taking/teaching Canadian literature. I appreciate how he goes through each genre (drama, poetry, fiction) and highlights some of the prominent writers. I appreciate how he updated and added chapters on "Twenty years later" to suggest who he may have missed or overrated. Finally, I appreciated his argument vs. post-modern literature and his refusal to use the term when describing trends. He raises a lot of questions on the future of literature and the arts and liberal education and wonders where Canadian literature will be as we don't value this area in our culture and tend to focus on "hands on subject areas" which is detrimental to society in his (and my) opinion. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-08-15 00:00:00 Legend Killer These were fascinating stories both of Ukrainians' experiences in a new land - Canada, as well as some of the more horrific experiences that many Ukrainians endured during WWII, particularly in the concentration camps. I enjoyed learning more about "my people." The stories and poems were touching, humorous and eye-opening. |
