Review # 1 was written on 2017-04-10 00:00:00 Richard Browd A reasonably entertaining read about the cookery phenomenon that is Heston Blumenthal. With a Michelin 3-star restaurant - The Fat Duck - and a stunning reputation for weird and wonderful dishes, this book satisfies our curiosity about the man. It is not a cook book, nor a book that lifts the lid on his activities as a molecular gastronomic chef, but it tells us about how Blumenthal has lived his life, his ambitions and achievements. Even though it didn't go into too much depth about the food, it nevertheless made me realise what a picky & pedestrian eater I am. Some of his recipes sounds absolutely wonderful, but even if I wasn't vegetarian I would be more repelled than enticed by some of the dishes mentioned. Dishes containing pate de foie gras, or specialities that he has concocted like snail porridge, or a dish containing puréed frogs, which you eat with crisply fried frogs legs? Definitely outside my comfort zone. ------------------------------ The ultimate Blumenthal cookbook. An excellent video describing Blumenthal and his cooking. And a video showing the seductiveness of his dishes. |
