Review # 1 was written on 2009-03-11 00:00:00 Craig Cassidy I really really like this book. Curtis is an amazing artist, his color sense is ideal and his brush work and attention to detail is top notch. He writes about his process, his view of art, his selection of composition and place to paint, as well as giving his views on how to adjust paintings once they are set. Overall an excellent addition to an artists library from a great artist. He's not going to show you exactly how to paint, so it's not a beginner book, but more intermediate for the person already painting already exploring after the groundwork is laid.

Review # 2 was written on 2012-11-27 00:00:00 Joan Mccormack Of Oil instruction books I've read, this one is very low on information. Don't get me wrong, the author is a very talented artist. His paintings are energetic, beautiful and technically adept. Unfortunately, I don't think he is skilled at communicating what he knows. Despite a plethora of images, the book is low on illustrations that support what Mr. Curtis is trying to teach.
