Don DeLillo, Valparaiso A small two-act play that examines our media culture, exhibitionism, and banality. It feels like we've entered a reality show that never seems to reach its destination. There are parts of this that seem brilliant and parts, unfortunately, that fall a bit flat. I'm a big DeLillo fan and particularly love his fiction. His plays, play I guess, just not as hard. Like one chord, strummed over and over. One of my best friends saw this when it opened in Cambridge back in 1999. It would be interesting to see it performed, but I'm not sure if seeing it live would make it better. Perhaps, but only because the whole play is about performance. Its power is derived from being performed. |
