Review # 1 was written on 2014-04-28 00:00:00 Lesley Dinoff A good concise summary of French grammar taught chapter by chapter, with a reasonably entertaining comic book episode in each chapter. Most grammar is covered except preterite and subjunctive tenses. Vocabulary included is partly dependent on the story and examples given. It makes a good revision text for those who have studied the language several years prior. For someone learning from scratch I'd say that more work would need to be done per chapter to absorb it. Perhaps the included internet links provide that; I didn't check. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-05-14 00:00:00 Edward Thomas A handy book if you're looking for a quick introduction to a language and its history. I felt that these introductions were almost too brief at some points though, varying from 2 pages to just a few sentences per language. I also missed certain languages that I would have expected to be featured in this book. For example, Indonesian is collectively mentioned with other Austronesian languages, but there is no page, not even a sentence specifically dedicated to this language. |
