I almost fell asleep when I was reading this book. That can be a whole review on it's own. 3 out of 5 stars. It was a so-so book. This book was boring. That may just be me though. I am one who likes YA, romance, and teen books rather than nonfiction and stuff like that. I felt the author had no flavor in her writing, the book did have a lot of shocking moments and big points but the author just made them sound very bland, like nothing happened. There were no booms, clashes, no sound effects? It just had no pizzazz in it. The scenes were off. I liked the shocking scenes. I loved when cool stuff happened, everyone does though. Like when a volcano erupted, or she got stuck on a mountain, or some thrilling moments in the book. But.. like I said before, she made them very dull. I found myself skimming over this book sometimes because it just seemed to drag on and on about the same thing and that thing was just plain boring It was forgettable. I am struggling to come up with things I hate and love! I literally would not remember anything from this book if I didn't have my two column notes. Her writing was so easy to just skim over and forget like nothing happened. I had to read all of it, and I wish I hadn't because I was just dying reading it. I almost passed out. If you like nonfiction and science then I would definitely recommend this book. If you're like me and like fiction, teen, and anything other than boring books, don't read it.

A good introduction of volcanoes for older kids. Full of photographs and fun facts, as well as personal anecdotes of bravery. I recommend this to any future volcanologists!
