Review # 1 was written on 2009-05-24 00:00:00 Jonathan Whitcombe I really, really do not like non-fiction. I also really, really do not like writing my dissertation. But this book was truly a good read. Clear, well-argued, impeccably researched, and pleasant to read. It was extremely helpful in understanding women, marriage, and society in general in nineteenth-century Lima.

Review # 2 was written on 2008-05-30 00:00:00 Ruben Pothof Sorry - I got maybe 100 pages into this before determining it was a waste of my time. I needed genuine scholarship, particularly from the feminine perspective for research last semester and all I got from this was a bunch of twaddle.
