Review # 1 was written on 2014-06-06 00:00:00 Mark Morton Piepmeier dives into a deep unpacking of the physical embodiment of five different famous (at least in their time) women from the 19th century. Her study adds a much needed lens to the scholarship of the expression and craft of identity of women within the 19th century. I appreciated her lens of embodiment supported by a thorough analysis of their written texts. Beyond a few disagreements with some of the definitions of terms she established in the introduction, I have very little negative critique of the book. It's the kind of study that sadly doesn't get more attention, because both of the subject matter and likely the author's perceived gender identity. However, any serious scholar of 19th century culture and identity should read this book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-07-10 00:00:00 Jeffrey Gerson A little dull. Read it for a Civil War class. Interesting history on Texas that I never received before. |
