Review # 2 was written on 2010-06-10 00:00:00 Daniel Bernal Last volume I said I was done with this series, but the publisher had a promotion and the remaining books went from 25 to 10 bucks (about U$S 2,50) and so I decided to give it another shot and finish it. This was... confusing. When you think the plot will actually develop into something mildly normal it goes back to the constant state of conflict it was when it started. Nothing gets solved or even moves a bit forward and it gets frustrating. And I don't mean "solved" as in happy ending, I mean anything, good or bad, that doesn't end up in the same place. Maybe frustration is the goal here, showing how hikikomori lifestyle is like and adiction with no solution, a never ending spiral. I just don't know why I have to feel it too. No connection is made between the characters and there's barely any plot to be told: suicide, drugs, parents, home town, old teachers and mates, girlfriends, back to scholl, all brief stops in these hikimomori's journeys, nothing is treated with depth and it seems detached (another lifestyle choice? or maybe the writer's imput). Instead there's a lot of self-loathing/over-confident (on and off) babbling. When the characters reach deeper conclusions and have more meaningful experiences (though still pathethic) we get to feel something, as in the phrase: "How will I ever be able to work?! I only know how to masturbate... My Life is just jerking off." The rest is a bit off.
