Review # 1 was written on 2014-06-28 00:00:00 Keenan Kirimli I absolutely loved this book, which was a birthday gift from my wonderful friend Sharon, also a "Goodreader" - it is subtitled: How a Manic-Depressive Artist Survives Being the Primary Caregiver for Her Father & Ex-Mother-In-Law: A Memoir. With unflinching honesty, Lynne Taetsch - a local Ithaca, NY author - tells what it was like to be an artist, caregiver and bipolar. Anyone who has ever been in the position of caring for an aging parent (especially one with dementia) should read this - they will laugh and cry right along with me and the author. I have not had to care for a parent like she did, but I could identify with her. Actually, I think this is a book of great value to everyone - to women, especially, since we are so often the ones who take on too much, out of our desire to help those we love. I hope I get to meet this woman some day and tell her in person what a great book she wrote! |
