Review # 1 was written on 2011-07-09 00:00:00 Charlyne Blomberg Not simply a "get inspiration from a painting" kind of book. This one shows how the artist and gardener both work in the same way - providing a way into the painting/garden, giving the eye a destination, unity and coherence, and defining depth and scale - just to mention a few points. Yes, you can take the colours from a painting as inspiration, but you can also take mood and style. There are many examples of this in large colour photographs. The author takes you from impressionism through to cubism to show the variety of styles possible. I loved the paintings by Pierre Bonnard especially - "Dining Room Overlooking the Garden", and "The Terrace at Vernon". There is much more to the book than I'm writing here, so if you're an art lover and have aspirations for creating a garden - this is the book for you! |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-01-25 00:00:00 John Mcdonnell Unlike another book which suggests planning a garden's color scheme based on the color scheme of a favorite painting, this book suggests planning a garden based on the composition of a painting, as well as the color. Clear examples are given. |
