Review # 1 was written on 2020-12-29 00:00:00 Michael George I remember reading this back in high school and thinking it was a very good and underrated manga. I picked it up again today and was pleased to find that it held up quite well. Many shonen manga series dealing with ghosts/spirits forget about the human aspect of them pretty quickly and end up focusing entirely on the spirits as monsters rather than who they were before death, whereas I don't remember ever feeling that about Muhyo & Roji's BSI. In volume 1, we get several short problem-of-the-week style chapters regarding ghosts haunting someone. Muhyo and Roji identify the ghost and then Muhyo sentences the ghost for its magical crime (spectral possession, unauthorized parasitation, etc.) and sends it to pass on to the afterlife or suffer forever down below. The first chapter is especially good with a ghost who is simultaneously horrifying and sympathetic so that there isn't an easy answer to her appropriate fate. As for the main characters, Roji is pleasant and likeable. Muhyo is... really odd-looking and kind of a jerk. He is a genius who doesn't think much of normal people, but it is implied that there will be backstory to explain that. I don't remember disliking him last time I read this series, so I'm hoping that he will get better as the story progresses (or at least that I'll get used to his character design).

Review # 2 was written on 2019-07-23 00:00:00 Czar Czar I've read all volumes in Japanese before, and I knew it was fun. That's why I started to read in English. Also I remember the story, so it's easy to read smoothly. These two protagonists are a really good partner each other. Muhyo's spell is so cool everytime. I can't wait to see another spell!
