To be honest, I started reading Cheeky Angel because it had been sitting unread on my shelves for over ten years, and I figured I should give it a chance before putting it in the charity box. Here at the midway point, I'm on the fence and am considering keeping it after all. One thing I enjoy about comedy is seeing familiar characters bounce off each other in new situations. This manga's gender themes make it go a little further than everybody just running in place for another volume.

The girl talking to Meg puts Genzo down, telling her of some things he had done previously, but Meg disagrees with her assessment of Genzo. She also tells Meg that she asked Genzo out. Then a group of thugs appears and hassles the two girls. Their mistake. The girl tells Meg that Genzo likes manly girls, so she figures if she acts really girlie Genzo will stop hanging around her. She's also trying to figure if the 'real' Genzo is evil or good. Miki thinks he's good. Miki talks to Ichiro, Hitomonji and Tasuki and tells them she wants Meg to stay a girl and not change back to a boy. Meg meets Genzo's older sister, Setsuka. Later Meg and Miki go through a book of notes Genzo had made about how to be a man. Later they get the magic book and try to decide how to get a wish granted in the right way. The being appears and asks Meg to make her decision, to continue to be a girl or to be a boy. Meg can't make her mind up, and the being tells her that before long she'll return to what she once was. Suddenly Meg runs away and later she and Genzo have a talk.
