Review # 1 was written on 2019-12-27 00:00:00 Chris Coolbaugh This is a riveting story about a man who most likely is the most remarkable person in New Mexico's colorful past. He was a lawyer, rancher, scientist, miner, railroader, educator, politician, civic leader, philanthropist, patron of the arts and responsible for promoting what is today known as the "Santa Fe Pueblo Revival" architecture. At various times he worked for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe R.R., the Maxwell Land Grant, the Smithsonian Institute, the NM Territorial Legislature and argued cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. He was so influential that he was even instrumental in getting a Territorial governor replaced in the midst of the Colfax Country War.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-09-18 00:00:00 Richard Marion A thin book but whoah what a struggle to get through. He didn't make much effort to make it readable, but then again he's a geographer, not a creative writer... gives a little insight to a man whose focus is on our place in the world, in community, as individuals. I'd rather read one of his scholarly works, and I will.
