Seven Natural Wonders of Africa by Michael Woods and Mary B. Woods is filled with beautiful photographs and fascinating details about the second largest continent on Earth. Each chapter concentrates on one of the natural wonders, which include the Nile River, Mount Killmanjaro, and the Serengeti Plain. Each chapter describes each natural wonder. Included in the chapters are maps showing the location of the wonder, side bars with interesting facts, photographs beautifully showcasing the wonder are well as issues facing the wonder. The back of the book also contains rich resources. There is a timeline of the wonders (very brief and not detailed), a glossary, source notes and a bibliography, and two pages of book and website recommendations for further exploring (I loved this!). There is also a "challenge" for kids reading the book to continue to study Africa and suggest an eighth wonder. This book really fascinated me. I can easily see children becoming very excited and wanting to learn more about the great continent of Africa.

What: This book contains information not just on how water pollution affects marine life, but also our environment. It touches on acid rain, which I believe is an aspect of water pollution that gets left out of a lot of informational texts on the subject. It also goes into how we can help lesson our impact on our water bodies. So What: I felt that this book was interesting and very relevant for children who are interested in how pollution is affecting our water systems. Now What: I think this would be a great book for a science course. I also think it's a great way to introduce children to what's going on with our water systems as well as get them motivated to do something to change how our waters are treated.
