Review # 1 was written on 2008-10-13 00:00:00 Noelle Loughran An interesting but very sad book about the demise of a number of villages in Britain. Sadly, most are caused by the direct or indirect actions of people or organisations who seem to have no care about the people whose homes are lost. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-08-28 00:00:00 James Dean Bromley Very nice if your idea of "history" is really "nostalgia". It's more of a lament, than an informative book about villages that have been lost, destroyed or abandoned. Such a shame because the subject matter is very interesting. It's a veiled discourse on how awful it is that things are changing in the British Isles, that a perceived "British" way of life is dying out, being destroyed or abandoned, like the villages. I got the impression that the author is to history what Prince Charles is to architecture (and history!). |
