Otter thinks he's grown up enough to do whatever he pleases. His actions are at times willful, at times hair-raising as he learns that maybe he's not quite so grown up as he thinks. A little disturbed by how he doesn't listen to his parents or even treat them respectfully, though the book is still fun to read out loud, especially with the fun word choices.

Otters are my favorite animal and I will happily add this book to my collection. I enjoyed the adorable illustrations and that the otters weren't heavily gendered in presentation; they all look like otters and there isn't the "girls have eyelashes and boys don't" nonsense. This also makes it easier for me to change "papa" to "mom" and have a same-sex otter parenting duo for my family to hear about.
