Review # 1 was written on 2018-02-09 00:00:00 Angela Diamond I am a collector of books designed to help me be a more effective teacher. I tend to reference them rather than read them, but this one I read cover to cover, and I'm glad I did. It is filled with nothing gimmicky, just 30 thinking strategies designed to engage students, develop their skills, and build their higher-level thinking. I've used several before'KWL and Think Pair Share, to name a couple'but I enjoyed learning more and brainstorming different ways to incorporate them into my lessons. Each chapter develops the same with an overview of the strategy, research that backs its effectiveness, the thinking strategies used, step-by-step instructions, and additional suggestions. A good read for instructors looking to develop their bag of tricks and activate higher levels of learning in their students. |
Review # 2 was written on 2007-08-05 00:00:00 Kyle Ellis Had to read this for a class for my MLIS degree. It's full of sentences like "Informed learning is when you're learning informed." It's a short book to begin with, but I think it could have been reduced down much more. |
