Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-21 00:00:00 Craig Nevius Notes from the chapter by Alexander, B. K. (2006), "Telling twisted tales: Owning place, owning culture in ethnographic research": Alexander (2006) highlights on space and place as key areas to consider when reflecting on performance. He looks into the importance of one's having-been-there when telling the story - as "situational authenticity" that comes from experience over time, personal connections, and what one remembers (p. 51). He talks about the "inside of the outside" and the "outside of the inside" (p. 54), and he highlights on the place and the placement of the body - and the social habits. His notes make one consider being both the participant as well as the observer, while he kind of seems to be calling for connecting between the two, and being on both ends: the teacher and the student. |
