Review # 1 was written on 2011-03-01 00:00:00 David Villa Professor Diamond has been a great mentor to me and an outstanding teacher, and reading this book was a great way to refresh my memory of some the theories around organizational change. By walking us through the process of consulting organizations through change with detailed examples, the book was really practical and helpful. Trying to put theory into practice is one of the biggest challenges - even if you understand an organization's culture and what is blocking change, I've found it harder to know how to guide them to a better place. It also reminded me once again of the many defensive mechanisms change prompts and why, and the importance of good leadership and what happens when it doesn't exist. It's also interesting to think about the delicate balance between our needs for autonomy and belonging and how they play out in our work life, which especially in this country is core to our identities. |
