Review # 1 was written on 2011-06-07 00:00:00 Timothy Kraft I liked this book pretty well, although it wasn't anything really special. It's probably on a 4th or 5th grade level (but I haven't found it on any AR lists). I picked it off the shelf at the library hoping it would be humorous (always looking for funny books for David), but it was just a sweet easy going story about a boy who moves away from a big city to a small Texas town. He encounters almost no opposition in the story of any kind (it's kind of eerie how easy the move is for him). But I guess if you're trying to convince your 7 dash 10 year old to be happy about moving from a big city to a small town, this might be a good book to encourage their cooperation. Personally, I can't believe Harry Potter book 1 was turned down so many times, yet a book like this is in print. Hmmm..... |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-05-12 00:00:00 James Jacobs The camp-out mystery by Gertrude Chandler Warner First time reading this author and looking forward to it because I am always looking for new books for my grandson to read. Alden children are on their camping trip with their grandfather. Love hearing how they prepare for the trip-as they are packing the car. They get mixed signals from others as they shop for food and check into the camp site. They wonder why not a lot of people are there and discover a lot of different reasons: noise, bats, missing things. Lots of mysteries for the children to solve...medical emergency and love how everyone works together, everybody has their own jobs to do. What I like about listening to this book is you hear all the sounds as they happen, doors squeaking open, bags getting packed, etc I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device). |
